Migration Cleaner
A tool to assist with cleaning folder and file names when preparing to migrate your on-premise file server to a service such as Dropbox, Box.com, Google Drive, OneDrive, or SharePoint. These services require directory and file names to adhere to a set of rules:
- Rename restricted chars and replace with an underscore, including: ~ ” # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }
- Rename gremlins
- Rename leading and trailing spaces
- Rename trailing ‘.’ periods
- Rename files with no name or a space as a name
- Move .DS-Store files
- Move Icon files
- Move aliases/shortcuts
- Move temp files starting with ~
- Move (and rename w/o .) invisible files/folders that start with .
- Move files = 0 bytes in size
- Flag paths and filenames > 250 chars
- Flag files > 15 GB in size
- Flag reserved filenames in Windows
- Unlock locked files
- Total folder/file count
