The paid edition of Markdown Reader

Markdown Pro

Your document and your AI agent, in one window.

Markdown Pro puts Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other AI agents in a terminal under your document. Watch the page update as the agent writes, answer its questions right in the document, and see who wrote what. Plus a live-preview editor and branded PDF, HTML and Word export. $29 once, for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Markdown Pro in Split view on a Mac, showing a quarterly report. On the left, the Markdown source; on the right, the formatted preview of an “Open questions” section. Two questions from Claude Code are tinted violet and the user’s answers are tinted green, with a “You · Claude Code” legend at the top right. A terminal panel at the bottom of the window, opened in the document’s folder, has a “Run Claude Code” button.
Pro: work with your AI agent, right under the document

Collaborate with your AI agent

Open the terminal under your document — the Terminal button in the toolbar, View ▸ Show Terminal, or Ctrl+` (⌃` on the Mac). It's already in the document's folder. The Run button starts the agent you used last; its ▾ menu lists the agents you have installed — Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor CLI, Aider, OpenCode, Amp, Goose or Qwen Code — and links to install instructions for the others. Ask for a draft or an edit, and the document reloads, formatted, each time the agent saves. When the agent needs a decision, have it write its questions into the document and answer them right there. If the agent saves while you're typing, the app asks before it replaces anything.

Each agent is a separate product that you install and sign in to yourself, under its maker's terms. Markdown Pro doesn't include one and doesn't send it anything.

The names of the AI agents mentioned here may be trademarks of their respective owners. Markdown Pro isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Markdown Pro in dark mode, Split view, with the Markdown source on the left and the formatted preview on the right. An “Open questions” section shows two questions from Claude Code highlighted in violet, each followed by the user’s answer highlighted in green. A terminal panel runs along the bottom of the window.
Pro: your agent asks, you answer — in the document

See who wrote what

Every line is credited to its author: you in mint green, the AI agent running in the window's terminal in violet (under its name), and changes from anywhere else in amber. Colleagues who also use Markdown Pro appear under their own names in their own shades. Hover a paragraph for who changed it and when; click the legend for each author's share. Toggle the colors with the Authorship button in the toolbar, next to Find. The history lives in a small file next to your document, works the same on Mac, Windows and Linux, never appears in prints or exports, and never leaves your computer.

A report in Markdown Pro’s Read view with authorship colors on. Questions written by Claude Code have a violet bar and the user’s answers a green bar. A “Who wrote what” panel at the top right lists You (2 lines, 3%), Claude Code (3 lines, 4%) and Before tracking (63 lines, 93%), each with the time of its last change.

Markdown Pro FAQ

Is it a subscription?
No. $29, once. It includes every 2.x update. A future major version may be offered as a discounted upgrade.
Does Markdown Pro include an AI agent?
No. Markdown Pro gives an agent a place to work next to your document. Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor CLI, Aider, OpenCode, Amp, Goose and Qwen Code are separate products that you install and sign in to yourself, under their makers' terms and privacy policies (some require their own paid plans). Markdown Pro isn't affiliated with any of them and doesn't send them anything.
Is it a separate download?
No. Markdown Pro is the same app as Markdown Reader. Start the trial or enter a key, and the Pro features unlock in place.
How does the free trial work?
Choose Upgrade to Markdown Pro… and click Start 14-Day Free Trial. No sign-up, no payment details. The trial starts when you click, not when you install, and can't be restarted. When it ends, the app goes back to the free viewer; your documents, templates and branding settings are untouched, and you can enter a key at any time.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to 5 devices at a time, in any mix of Mac, Windows and Linux.
How do I move my license to a new computer?
Choose Markdown Pro License… ▸ Remove License on the old computer, then enter your key on the new one.
Does Pro need an internet connection?
Only to activate a key and to re-check it now and then. If the app can't reach the license server, Pro keeps working for up to 30 days since its last successful check. The trial works entirely offline.
I used the editor in version 1.x. Do I have to pay to keep editing?
From 2.0, editing is part of Markdown Pro. Your documents are unchanged and still open in the free viewer. Start the 14-day trial to keep editing while you decide.
What do you know about me when I buy?
Purchases are handled by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy; we don't see your card details. Activating a key sends the key and a name for the computer to the license server so the 5-device limit can apply. See our Privacy policy.
